DARWIN has already received more rain this April than its monthly average, according to weather experts at the Bureau of Meteorology.

BOM forecasters said 108.6mm of rainfall had already fallen in Darwin over the first six days of April — more than the 102.1mm usually measured in the month.

This week, Top Enders can brace for more wet weather — with the very high chance of rain expected over Darwin.

Tomorrow, the chance of rainfall drops to 70 per cent, and eases on Wednesday to a 30 per cent chance of showers.

BOM is predicting slightly cooler weather in Darwin today and tomorrow, with temperatures between 24-31C.

BOM has issued a severe weather warning for people in parts of Arnhem district, warning heavy rain, which may lead to flash flooding.

“24 hour rainfall totals of 50 to 100mm are expected, with isolated falls of up to 150mm possible,” BOM said.

“Locations which may be affected include Nhulunbuy, Alyangula, Ngukurr, Gapuwiyak, Numbulwar and Arnhem District south of Ramingining.

“Damaging wind gusts are no longer expected with this system.”
