Every Territorian deserves the chance to get a roof over their head, says two Territory Labor politicians ahead of a Federal election.

Announced on Thursday by Territory federal Labor MPs Luke Gosling and Marion Scrymgour, as well as Federal Housing Minister Clare O’Neil, the NT is set to get a slice of the Albanese government’s promised 13,700 new social and affordable homes.

Alice Springs will get 36 new homes, while the Palmerston suburbs of Rosebery and Johnston will get 13 homes and 34 homes – a total of 83 new homes for the Territory.

The homes are being delivered through the first round of the Housing Australia Future Fund, in partnership with the National Housing Accord, and is set to benefit the Top End and the Red Centre.

Solomon MP Luke Gosling said the new homes would give Territorians a chance to get a roof over their head.

“Every Territorian deserves the chance to have a roof over their head – and this investment is delivering that for families across Darwin and Palmerston,” he said.

Lingiari MP Marion Scrymgour said the new homes will “change lives” in Alice Springs.

“By building more homes in Alice Springs, we’re ensuring more locals can stay in the communities they love, close to family and work,” she said.

“Housing is about dignity, security, and opportunity. These new homes will change lives, particularly for women and children fleeing domestic violence.”

A federal election is set to be held before May, with a date yet to be set.
