A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening police with an edged weapon and causing a nearly nine hour siege in Palmerston, NT Police said.
About 12:10am on Thursday, emergency services received reports of a 52-year-old man causing property damage at a unit complex on Victoria Drive, Gray.
NT Police alleged the man was staying with family at the unit who were forced to evacuate for their own safety, as he refused to leave.
The man allegedly threatened police officers with an edged weapon when they attended the scene.
An NT Police spokesperson said officers disengaged the situation and moved to the ground floor before cordoning off the area.
The Police Negotiator Unit, supported by the Territory Response Group, began negotiations with the man while St John Ambulance was on standby.
The man surrendered to police at about 8.40am and was taken into custody.
No injuries were reported but investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Police said charges were yet to be laid.
