A man has been tasered by police on the popular Nobby Beach restaurant and bar strip after allegedly going on a destructive rampage.

Officers were called to Chairlift Ave in Mermaid Beach about 7.50pm on Tuesday to reports of a male behaving erratically.

A Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokeswoman said it would be alleged several cars were damaged by the man before he entered a business and stole a number of items.

He was “non-compliant” with responding officers, according to the QPS spokeswoman.

A taser was used to subdue the man, who was then taken into custody.

The incident was witnessed by a number of people who were dining in nearby restaurants at the time.

Shannon Paul Hargraves, 35, has since been charged with wilful damage, enter with intent, and stealing.

He was remanded in custody and did not appear when his case was briefly mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

Duty lawyer India Brady said Mr Hargraves was in a “heightened state” and unable to be moved safely by watchhouse officers or provide her with instructions.

Mr Hargraves’ case was adjourned to Thursday and he remains in custody.
