A teenage boy who allegedly drove dangerously and returned a positive alcohol reading has been arrested by Northern Territory Police.

About 12.30am Friday, police allege they saw a silver Ute driving “erratically” along Temple Tce.

It is understood the Ute swerved left to right a number of times, causing the vehicle to fishtail and crash into a kerb near Callanan Rd.

Police allege the driver behind the car was a 17-year-old provisional license holder, who was later arrested after he returned a positive roadside breath test for alcohol.

The boy was then issued an infringement notice for driving with low range alcohol content, careless driving and failing to display his P plates.

The vehicle was impounded under anti-hooning legislation for a period of 48 hours.

Darwin Traffic Operations Acting Sergeant Brett Geranios said he was thankful nobody was injured in the incident.

“Fortunately, neither the driver, passenger or any other road users were injured in this incident however, it was incredibly reckless behaviour,” he said.

“Police will continue to detect, investigate and prosecute these sorts of offences and would like to encourage the public to continue to report impaired drivers and hooning offences either via 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
