Cops arrest 23 year-old for allegedly assaulting, mugging woman

The woman reportedly sought refuge inside a restaurant after she was allegedly followed off a bus before being attacked and mugged.

April 6, 1.30pm: A 23 year-old woman has been arrested after she allegedly followed an older woman off a bus before assaulting her and stealing her bag.

Police say the two women had been travelling on a bus which stopped at Casuarina bus exchange at about 9.40pm on Saturday.

Police say the younger woman followed the victim off the bus and along Bradshaw Terrace, where she began throwing rocks and bottles at the victim.

The young woman then allegedly stole the bag of the victim, who sought refuge inside a nearby restaurant on the corner of Bradshaw Terrace and Trower Road.

Strike Force Trident and general duties members responded, and a 23 year-old woman was arrested nearby the scene at 9.56pm.

Some of the alleged victim’s personal items remain outstanding, with Strike Force Trident yet to complete their investigation.

Cops search for car stolen during knifepoint robbery

April 4, 7am: A car was stolen during a “targeted” robbery in the Top End, where a 16-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint, cops say.

Northern Watch Commander Kaye Pemberton said the robbery occurred at 11.20pm in Coolalinga, during which a grey Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen.

Ms Pemberton said the car was outstanding, and urged those who spot it to contact police.

The outlander’s registration is CD 62 XR. It has NT plates.

Ms Pemberton said the 16-year-old who was held at knifepoint was “targeted” by two other youths, who were still on the run.

One was known to him, she said.

One of the alleged offenders was aged 13, she said, while police were yet to determine the other’s age.

She said the other alleged offender was “possibly” 18 years old, but she did not give a gender for either youths involved.

The 16-year-old was not injured, she said.

April 2, 12.45pm: NT Police attended a two-vehicle collision on Tiger Brennan Drive as motorists were impacted by heavy overnight rainfall.

The incident was reported about 9.20am on Wednesday during a particularly wet morning commute for drivers.

Police said there was nothing serious of note as a result of the crash, though part of the inbound land was blocked due to oil spillage.

Police and emergency services vehicles were on scene blocking a lane near the Hidden Valley intersection.

No injuries have been reported.

Two NT businesses hit by alleged grog thieves

April 1, 6am: Two Katherine businesses have been hit by a pair of thieves on a quest for grog, with the duo allegedly making off with more than $400 of the substance.

Northern Watch commander Travis Edwards said the alleged break-in occurred in Katherine about 1am on Tuesday.

Mr Edwards said the thieves allegedly broke into the Katherine Coffee Club and when inside they further gained entry to the Stuart Hotel.

Police allege the pair took $450 worth of alcohol.

A glass door was smashed and the interior ceiling was damaged during the break-in.

Mr Edwards said CCTV operators spotted a 21-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy who were later arrested in connection to the burglary in the Katherine CBD.

Both are expected to be charged on Tuesday morning.

Elderly woman used medical alert device after break-in

March 31, 10:20am: An elderly woman used her medical alert device to call for help after her home was allegedly broken into by a 14-year-old boy in Katherine South overnight.

Police received reports of an unlawful entry about 8:15pm on Sunday, after the woman’s family were alerted to a break-in at her home.

The woman woke to noises and found her door damaged.

Her mobile phone and a set of keys were missing.

Responding officers from Katherine general duties and the dog operations unit patrolled the area and soon located the alleged offender nearby.

The teenager was allegedly found carrying multiple sets of keys and an edged weapon before being taken into custody.

Senior Sergeant Glenn Leafe praised the woman’s swift response and her family’s quick action in notifying police.

“This lady did an excellent job seeking help, and her family acted promptly to ensure police could apprehend this young person nearby, preventing further offending,” he said.

Police are continuing investigations, as several sets of keys were found in the teenager’s possession.
