Toyota Camry drives straight into stopped truck in peculiar dashcam footage

The driver of a Toyota Camry was captured driving straight into the front of a truck in Adelaide without slowing down beforehand.

Footage captures driver slamming head-on into truck

Bizarre dashcam footage has surfaced showing the driver of a small sedan driving directly into the path of a stationary truck and slamming into it head-on.

Video from inside the truck appeared to show the Toyota Camry maintaining its speed before colliding with the heavy vehicle in Adelaide last month.

Footage, shared to the Dash Cam Owners Australia Facebook page on Wednesday, showed the small car swerving around a broken down semi truck blocking part of a lane in Athol Park.

Instead of returning to its lane after passing, it continued travelling straight into the path of a truck driving in the opposite direction.

The truck driver said luckily he had already begun to slow down for a work zone when he noticed the Camry driving straight towards him.

“I was in my loaded truck heading north, coming past the semi, and slowing down as there was a work zone, and I spotted the Camry coming over to my side of the road,” the post read.

“I had one metre left to go to pass the semi, I stopped dead, the Camry powered on and slammed into me as if I didn’t exist.”

He said after the collision, which totalled the Camry and caused $10,000 worth of damage, he found out the car had no registration and no insurance.

The car also “stunk of wine” he said, and there were “life possessions filling the inside of the car”.

While the driver of the Camry was taken to hospital, the truck driver said he “drove away bewildered, and continued working”.

The shocking footage attracted a huge response after it was viewed nearly 150,000 times.

“Why did he continue at speed? He had enough time to try and stop. I hope he is OK,” one of more than 700 comments read.

“This has to be the most avoidable accident in the history of the universe,” someone else wrote.

“This guy clearly shouldn't be driving if he didn't see that coming,” another said.
