Seven people, including four children under the age of 12, were involved in the crash.
Six of them, including the 38-year-old female driver of the Mazda and two children aged 12 and four, were transported by paramedics to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
The 36-year-old man who was driving the Pajero and a three-year-old girl – who was his passenger – were also taken to hospital where they remain in a stable condition.
The crash triggered a standstill along the Sunshine Motorway, with drivers forced to wait several hours for the road to reopen.
