The bizarre moment a man smashes the windows of an Uber driver’s car in Melbourne’s east has been caught on tape.
Video of the incident shows the intense altercation unfold at Lalwa St and Canterbury Rd in Blackburn at 7.30am on Thursday.
In the clip, the passenger grabs what appears to be a hammer out of the car’s boot before using it to shatter the windows several times.
The Uber driver was not injured in the incident.
A 42-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested at a shopping centre on Canterbury Rd, Forest Hill, two hours later.
He has been charged with criminal damage, theft and driving offences and bailed to appear at Ringwood Magistrates’ Court on October 14, 2022.
An Uber spokesman said the company had been in contact with the driver and was offering him support.
“Our thoughts are with the driver-partner as he recovers from this traumatic incident,” he said.
“We have a zero-tolerance policy towards any type of violent behaviour and users found to have breached this policy may have their access to the app permanently removed.”
