A driver has been charged after his luxury car burst into flames in Sydney’s west after he was allegedly trying to do burnouts on a suburban street.

The terrifying moment was captured on a mobile phone as horrified onlookers watched on.

Emergency crews were called to Marks Street in Chester Hill just after midday on Sunday after a Mercedes Benz AMG C63S coupe, believed to be worth more than $100,000, caught fire.

Firefighters worked to save the vehicle but it was completely destroyed in the blaze. The surrounding road was also damaged.

Police were told the car burst into flames as it was being driven down the street. The male driver and his two male passengers escaped unharmed.

In footage of the incident, bystanders can be heard shouting at the trio to “get out of the car”, as flames billow from the vehicle.

The 25-year-old driver, and owner of the luxury car, was slapped with a court attendance notice for driving in a dangerous manner, and negligent driving.

He is due to appear in Bankstown Local Court in March.
