‘Isn’t funny’: Bondi carpark act sparks outrage after viral video

A brazen act at a world-famous beach has sparked controversy after video of the incident went viral.

Two beachgoers have sparked outrage online after they filmed themselves performing a controversial act in the carpark of a world-famous Sydney swimming spot.

The video, uploaded to TikTok last week, shows the two men picking up and moving a road scooter from a parking spot at Bondi Beach in the city’s east.

The pair can be heard laughing as they move the moped into an adjacent spot already occupied by another parked car after kicking away the owner’s helmet.

Captioned “POV: it’s Saturday and you need to find a parking spot in Bondi”, the video has since racked up almost 200,000 views as outage continues to grow.

People were quick to point out that the pair were interfering with someone’s property, with one user stating: “Bro, if someone did that to my bike I’d be fuming.”

“This could be someone’s bike who is just paying it off and struggling financially. It could mean so much to the owner,” another person stated.

“We don’t know what someone is going through. This isn’t funny.”

One person added: “Is that (your) property at all?”

“Literally just property damage for no reason,” said another.

The controversial act at one of the city’s busiest beaches was not without its supporters, with many commenters seemingly saying they would do the same.

“Next time at Coogee,” one person said, referring to the nearby beach.

“I’ve always thought of doing this,” another person said.

Others said “as you should” and “doing God’s work”.

A spokesperson for Waverley Council, which oversees Bondi, told Yahoo that a car and motorbike couldn’t share a single spot.

“Waverley Council provides motorcycle-only parking across the LGA, including several locations in Bondi Beach and Bondi Junction,” they said.
