A Queensland woman has been filmed in an “insane” standoff over a parking space after she refused to move out of the way of a car, despite being blasted by a horn.

‘Karen’ locked in standoff over parking space

A Queensland woman has been dubbed a ‘Karen’ online after she was filmed in an “insane” standoff over a parking space when she refused to move out of the way of a car.

In the video, shared on TikTok earlier this month, the woman can be seen standing in front of a vacant carparking space in Southport, near Surfers Paradise, Queensland, as a driver in a red car attempts to park.

The woman, who is wearing a black dress and sandals, seemed to be blocking the spot so herself and a man could park their car, waiting nearby.

“Let the road rage begin,” TikTok user @Grace_esma_iris said as she filmed the video, which she captioned with the hashtag “Karensgoingwild”.

The TikTok user also noted the sought after car space wasn’t the only one available.

“She can’t do that, there’s another car park right up there,” she said.

When the woman refused to move, the determined driver began loudly blasting her horn.

Undeterred, the woman began pointing and shouting before standing firm with her arms crossed.

As tensions continued to rise, a man approached before the driver got out of the car to speak to the pair.

Moments later, the driver was filmed driving away as the man held the spot for the woman to move their car into.

“She’s admitting defeat,” the TikTok user said in the video. “That’s insane”.

People were quick to slam the woman’s behaviour in the comments, suggesting they would have either continued to wait in the car “all day” or move slowly forward in hopes the woman would have eventually left.

“If this ever happened to me I’d just slowly drive in they’d move,” said one person.

“I’d be going in and you’d be getting the f**k out of the way,” said another.

“No chance in hell I’d leave. I’d have taken the day off work if I had to,” another commented.

It’s not the first time, a carpark ‘Karen’ has been filmed in a standoff over a vacant spot.

In 2021, a TikTok video went viral after a woman with a dog refused to move from a car park in Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.

After intervention from a stranger, she eventually moved along but not before approaching the teenager who filmed her.

“I got out of my car and she was still yelling at me, telling me I was immature for recording her and whatnot,” the teenager said.
