‘Incredibly stupid’: Bizarre dashcam footage captures suspected insurance fraud attempt

Dashcam footage captured the eerie moment a woman made a beeline for a car on a Sydney road. What happened next has sparked calls for a police investigation.

Dashcam footage has captured the bizarre moment a woman lay in front of a car in Sydney in a suspected attempt to stage an accident and claim insurance fraud.

The footage, shared on Reddit, shows the man driving slowly down Barnier Drive in Quakers Hill, in Sydney’s west, on Wednesday when he is suddenly approached by the woman.

“My friend was driving in Quakers Hill when suddenly a woman lay on the road in front of his car,” the Reddit user wrote.

“They accused him of hitting the woman with his car and threatened him to pay them.”

Footage shows the woman calmly walking down the middle of the street, directly heading towards the car.

After spotting the woman, the driver completely stops his vehicle before the woman lies down on the road underneath his bumper.

Moments later, a man appears and begins filming the woman with his phone.

The stunt doesn’t appear to last long with a younger woman later approaching and appearing to help the older woman back onto her feet.

NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury condemned the “stupid” act.

“How incredibly dangerous and (an) incredibly stupid thing to do,” he told 7News.

“Thankfully the driver was driving in a way that meant he could easily stop safely, that’s not always of course going to happen.”

The clip sparked a wave of outrage online as Aussies called on the dashcam driver to report the incident to police.

“I hope that’s been forwarded to police,” wrote one.

“Is this for real?,” added another.

News.com.au understands the incident has not yet been reported to the local Riverstone police station.
