An e-scooter rider is fighting for their life after suffering critical head injuries in a crash in inner Brisbane.
The 24-year-old rider was travelling on Melbourne St when he and an Uber driver collided in South Brisbane around 5.30am on Monday.
Police say the 31-year-old male Uber driver was travelling towards Boundary St when his sedan and the e-scooter rider, who was on his way to work, collided.
A bystander and the vehicle’s driver rendered immediate assistance to the rider ahead of the emergency response.
However, the e-scooter rider suffered critical head injuries and was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Initial police investigations indicate the e-scooter rider was not wearing a helmet.
“We would implore people on e-scooters or any type of recreational device or bicycle to be wearing a helmet,” Acting Inspector Simon Mortimer said.
“You are more likely to come out of an incident much better with wearing a helmet.”
The driver was not physically injured.
Police closed off the intersection and drivers have been told to avoid the area, with diversions set up.
Forensic crash unit investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash, or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
Police are also appealing for workers at nearby businesses to check and provide relevant CCTV.
