A 63-year-old father is fighting for his life after he was allegedly coward punched while trying to rescue a 17-year-old boy from a car crash on NSW’s Central Coast.
Rob Seddon reportedly jumped to his feet when he heard the loud thump of a Toyota Corolla slamming into a parked caravan outside his home on Skyhawk Ave in Hamlyn Terrace around 10pm on Saturday.
His wife told 7 News that her husband was trained in first aid and rushed outside to help the driver.
He was joined by other residents who were then attacked by a group of males, according to police.
Mr Seddon was allegedly struck from behind, falling backwards to the ground and losing consciousness.
He was flown to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition and has undergone brain surgery.
He remains in intensive care in a coma.
His 21-year-old son followed him outside and was also allegedly attacked, suffering a broken nose.
“I could hear the sheer horrible noises from this guy that was being hurt, I had tears in my eyes, I knew it was bad,” neighbour Diane Gardner told 9 News.
“It was absolutely horrible. You could hear his pain and he wanted help.”
Police are still trying to find the alleged attackers and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
The 17-year-old driver was breathalysed at the scene and returned a positive blood-alcohol reading.
He was charged with negligent driving and drink-driving on P-plates.
