An Adelaide grandfather says he “couldn’t believe” he was slapped with a parking fine while sitting in traffic on a notorious stretch of road.

The Prospect man, Bob, claimed he was merging into a queue of traffic during school pick-up when the parking inspector nabbed him.

The grandfather said he “couldn‘t believe it” when a $75 fine arrived in his letterbox.

“Parking, from my point of view at least, would be to turn the car off, lock it up and walk away,” Bob told Channel 9.

“Not sitting in the car with the engine running.”

The street is renowned for its traffic woes, with two lines of cars often banking up and blocking the road.

He said he was merging into a queue of traffic during school pick-up.

Bob was pulled up in a zone specifically signposted for passenger loading.

He said he was “following the rules” and the fine was “nothing more than a money grab”.

“When you’re in retirement, you’ve got limited budget,” he said.

“It does put a strain on finances.”

Bob appealed the decision but was unsuccessful.
