Lamborghini’s new supercar is unlike any other.
The famed Italian brand has ripped the covers off its new Huracan Sterrato, an off-road focused supercar that is as at home on the dirt as it is on the tarmac.
Lamborghini boss, Stephan Winkelmann, says the car breaks new ground in driving sensations.
“The Sterrato represents a radical and original interpretation of the super sports car concept but, in terms of performance, the Sterrato belongs in the world’s most dynamic and exciting driving environments,” he says.
Power comes from a 5.2-litre V10 engine that makes a mighty 449kW and 560Nm. This is paired to a seven-speed dual clutch automatic and all-wheel drive.
Lamborghini claims the off-road supercar can sprint from 0-100km/h in 3.4 seconds on the way to a top speed of 260km/h.
Prices aren’t confirmed but it’s expected to be sold for more than $400,000.
The Italian brand has boosted the Huracan’s ground clearance, which also increases the distance the suspension can travel, to help cushion larger bumps.
A wider distance between the wheels will help improve stability and grip on wilder surfaces.
Lambo has also added aluminium underbody protection and reinforced several elements to guard it against damage on rough roads.
Its 19-inch alloy wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Dueler four-wheel drive tyres that can act as run flats in case of a puncture up to speeds of 80km/h.
For the first time the driver instruments will feature a digital inclinometer with pitch and roll indicators, a compass, geographic co-ordinate indicator and steering angle indicator.
Lamborghini will only build 1499 units of the Sterrato and production is due to start in February, 2023.
The concept of a high-performance super rally car sounds bonkers as most are likely to never leave the bitumen.
European cities enforce stricter low emission zones, though, which could force petrol-guzzling supercars into the country in the near future.
Porsche, too, has got into the act with its 911 Dakar that brings off-road rallying performance to its potent flagship performance car.
It squeezes 353kW and 570Nm out of its turbocharged six-cylinder engine and it has a boosted ride height and all-wheel drive among other improvements that make it the natural rival of the Sterrato.
