2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 Australian details revealed

This new electric car has all the right ingredients to be the best zero-emission vehicle in the country, and it’s due to arrive soon.

Driving Hyundai's electric future

Hyundai’s newest electric car has some impressive numbers.

It has a driving range of up to 614km, can replenish 80 per cent of its big 77.4kWh battery in under 20 minutes and it is priced from $74,000 (before on-road costs).

Dubbed the Ioniq 6, it is Hyundai’s second dedicated electric car, and it goes on sale this month.

Built on the same platform as the Ioniq 5, the 2021 News Corp Car of the Year, it shares many of the boxy SUV’s components.

But the Ioniq 6 sports a sedan body shape. Its lower profile and smooth styling make it one of the slipperiest cars on sale.

This aerodynamic styling helps achieve its groundbreaking 614km driving range, which signals an end to range anxiety.

In fact, no electric car on sale in Australia right now can claim to drive that far on a single charge.

Hyundai Motor Company Australia boss, Ted Lee says: “We are thrilled to introduce our first-ever Ioniq 6 as the latest addition to our Ioniq range.”

“Ioniq 6 showcases the Hyundai brand’s technological ambition and our commitment to developing sustainable mobility solutions, while giving customers an exciting, accessible and versatile EV,” he says.

The Ioniq 6 will launch with three model grades: Dynamiq, Techniq and Epiq.

Dynamiq models prioritise driving range with a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. The electric motor makes 168kW and 350Nm.

The Techniq grade is priced from $83,500 and adds all-wheel drive and additional features. It’s dual motors make a combined 239kW and 605Nm. Driving range drops to 519km.

Epiq models start at $88,000 and use the same all-wheel drive setup but boost tech features.

All versions get must-have items such as dual 12.3-inch displays. One for the driver’s instruments and the other is a touchscreen for the infotainment.

There are electronically adjustable and heated front seats, a wireless device charger and a head-up display that projects vital information onto the windscreen in front of the driver.

Hyundai has included an extensive array of safety features as standard, too.

Every Ioniq 6 can be updated over-the-air in the same way your smartphone updates its software.

They also have a vehicle-to-load function that allows the Ioniq 6 to power items such as appliances and tools.

The Techniq gets 20-inch alloy-wheels instead of 18-inches as well as a panoramic sunroof, cooled front seats, heated rear seats and a heated steering wheel.

The Epiq grade further adds digital side mirrors among other items.
