GOOD Samaritans around Australia helped reunite an expectant mother with her wedding ring in the most incredible circumstances.

What marriage-phobic millennials mean for the wedding-ring industry

BRACE yourself for a story almost too good to be true.

Strangers have banded together to reunite a wedding ring with its owner, after it was found on a giant red sand dune in the Simpson Desert.

ABC Western Queensland posted a police image of the stunning ruby and diamond ring on Facebook, which was shared more than 5300 times around the country.

“Travellers have located a ring in the Simpson Desert — the world’s longest parallel sand dunes!” the post read.

Incredibly, it took just eight hours to locate the owner.

“Oh my goodness oh my goodness that’s my wedding ring from travelling across the desert in June thank you thank you so much I have called them this is unbelievable,” a woman called Elizabeth Docherty wrote in the comments, posting a picture of the ring on her finger.

She told the ABC she and her husband, who live in New South Wales, travelled through the area in June for a “babymoon” before they welcome their first child.

They had been taking photographs when she realised it was gone.

“My sister-in-law tagged me in a post on Facebook and called me to have a look at this post the ABC had put up, but I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

“My fingers are swelling up and down because we’re having a baby in September — our first child — and this couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I’m just thrilled ... as you can imagine, I’m pretty emotional as it is these days.”

All she has to do now is prove ownership to the police.

However, she’s confident she can do so by showing a desert pass proving she was there and describing an engraving inside the band.

“Wow if your (sic) legitimate that is like winning the lottery,” a woman called Gail Witt wrote in the thread.

“My husband and I were the ones that found this ring at Birdsville. We are so happy it will be reunited!” a woman called Liz Dean commented further down.

“You and your husband are wonderful honest people!” Mrs Docherty replied.

In true outback Queensland style, the ABC reports the story cannot be verified until the local police officer returns from the desert and gains phone reception.

However, Mrs Docherty is confident the ring is hers.
