Tourism NT launches 'seek different' tourism campaign

THE long wait for the Territory Tourism vouchers is almost over and with them comes the opportunity to explore all that the Top End has to offer.

More than 320 businesses have benefited from Territory Tourism vouchers over the past three rounds and another $5m has been invested into round four of the program.

There are plenty of places to go across the NT with prominent Territorians and personalities already weighing in where they will use their vouchers.

Tourism Minister Natasha Fyles said there were many great experiences in the NT.

“It doesn’t matter where you go or how many times you visit, there is always an amazing experience in the Territory,” Ms Fyles said.

“I would book a tourism package with Tourism Central Australia and take my family out on a road trip to the region.”

Opposition tourism spokeswoman Marie-Claire Boothby voiced support for the scheme, also saying Central Australia was the place she would look to book.

“Our tourism industry is in desperate need of a funding injection and the CLP supports this scheme,” Ms Boothby said. “If I received a tourism voucher, I’d be booking an experience at Yulara.”

Centralian tourism figure and former Alice Springs town councillor Brendan Heenan AM said he would love to take another ride in a hot-air balloon over the Red Centre or tour Palm Valley with Finke River Adventures.

“It’s a beautiful experience. It’s so quiet up there and you can see the kangaroos and cattle roaming around,” Mr Heenan said.

“Driving one of those buggies also looks a lot of fun.”

Territory Croc wrangler Matt Wright suggested he would go on a fishing charter with mates.

“I would go for myself and a couple of lads on a fishing charter where someone else would take me fishing on Yknot Fishing Charters or an Arafura Bluewater Charters. Maybe combine them, would be a great break with no phone service, cold beers and great mates,” Mr Wright said.

However, his wife, Kaia, said she would spend her vouchers elsewhere. “Yellow Water Cruises, I’ve never done it and all my friends have done it,” she said. “I see all these amazing photos and I think, ‘gosh I must do that’.”

Mix 104.9 radio host Katie Woolf was keen to spend more time in Kakadu, watching an Ubirr sunset but was also hoping for some time off to head to the Red Centre.

“I’d love to head to Central Australia with my family and take my children to see the Field of Light at Uluru,” Ms Woolf said. “It is a bucket list item to experience.”

The vouchers go live at 8pm Monday.
