THE NT’s borders will immediately be closed to NSW’s Port Stephens which has been declared a COVID-19 hotspot after a recent outbreak forced the closure of two schools.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner has announced that NT’s borders will be closed to the Port Stephens hotspot, located in 50km north of Newcastle, as of July 23.
It comes after two schools and a child care care have closed after three cases of COVID-19 were recently identified in Port Stephens.
“I know that’s bad news for other Australians, but it’s what needs to happen to keep Territorians safe – and that’s my top priority,” Mr Gunner said.
“Anyone who arrives on our borders who has been in a hotspot within the last 14 days has two choices. Turn around and go home, or go into a supervised facility like Howard Springs for 14 days, and be charged $2500.
