THE Territory’s own Outback Wrangler Matt Wright features prominently in Tourism Australia’s latest campaign ‘The Gift of Travel’ which aims to inspire Australians to holiday closer to home.

The $8 million marketing campaign encourages Australians to buy travel related Christmas presents this year, supporting local jobs and businesses along the way.

Mr Wright has been at the forefront of Territory tourism for some time and hopes to see Aussies tour their own country whether it’s a helifishing adventure or a skiing trip.

“The tourism industry is responsible for giving people lifelong memories and experiences,” Mr Wright said.

“We need to make sure our amazing attractions, unique tours, delicious restaurants, and great accommodation bounce back as without them we lose so much culture and richness.

“An epic holiday gift doesn’t need to be over the top, it could be a voucher for a unique tour experience up the coast that gets people seeing places they’ve never seen before.

“You don’t need to necessarily buy plane tickets or two weeks’ worth of accommodation, a simple dinner voucher, or a day trip away, gets people travelling and doing new things that wouldn’t have otherwise done.”

His very own Darwin Airboat Tours is one of the many unique Territory experiences that will be available to tourists over the Christmas season.

The thrilling hour-long adventure will see visitors whisked around Darwin Harbour and mangroves on a custom built V8 Airboat with plenty of sharks, stingrays and crocs to see along the way.

Territorians should also cast their eyes to the Red Centre with Maruku Arts hosting an Aboriginal art dot painting experience just 25km from Uluru-Kara Tjuta, the perfect gift for anyone visiting the region.

Tourism Australia Managing Director Phillipa Harrison said there were plenty of tourism experiences to enjoy in the NT.

“There are lots of tourism experiences on offer in the NT which would make great gifts,” Ms Harrison said.

“Whether it’s a thrilling airboat tour with crocs, an Aboriginal art experience or a guide-lead tour in a National Park – there’s so much to choose from. I encourage locals, and those looking to travel to the NT, to get behind this campaign and give the Gift of Travel this year.”
