With over 2.5 million views online, it will be a hit at your place!

Hoola hoop hack you need to try for the pool

If your kids are getting a little tired of diving for pool toys, lying on a lilo and playing 'Marco Polo', then you must try this! And even better, it will only cost you $7.

It's a simple concept: a floating ring for kids to swim through. It will keep them occupied while you sit back and relax on the lounge chairs while keeping watch. You deserve it, after all.

Speaking from experience, pool toys can be expensive and often don't make it through the summer as they get worn out being left at the bottom of the pool because your kids refuse to retrieve them one last time.

Hula hoop, the gift that keeps on giving!

To solve this issue, one mum has combined her love of hula hoops and pool noodles to create this fun pool activity.

With over 2.5 million views, it will be a hit at your place.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Hula hoop
  • Pool noodle
  • Box cutter
  • Duct tape
  • Water

What you need to do:

  1. Cut the hula hoop with a box cutter.
  2. Cut one-third of the pool noodles using the same box cutter.
  3. Thread the pool noodles over the hula hoop.
  4. Fill the hula hoop with water and tape it to seal
  5. Move the pool noodle to cover the taped area
  6. Chuck in the pool and let the games begin!

With three hula hoops and one pool noodle, you can make a mini obstacle course for the kids to swim through. If you're wondering how much this all costs, the math has been mathed for you.

Kmart and Big W sell hula hoops for $5 each and pool noodles for $2 each. Meanwhile, Woolies sells hula hoops for $4 and slightly higher for the pool noodles at $3. However, if you're willing to make two stops, you could bring the cost down to $6!

Have fun and be swim-safe

Always remember that when your kids are in the pool, 'Keep Watch'.

"Children are at their most vulnerable to drowning when they start walking, so from around their first birthday," Justin Scarr, CEO of Royal Life Saving Australia, tells Kidspot.

"Tragically, we see a huge spike in one-year-olds drowning that doesn’t reduce until they children turn four years, by which point many have developed swimming skills."

When you're supervising your children in the swimming pool, avoid distractions.

"The biggest mistakes parents make are connected to distractions that create lapses in supervision," he shares.

"Getting lost in social media or tending to another child can be enough for children to slip into the pool, quickly and silently."

With all that said, race you to Kmart for hula hoops and pool noodles.
