DARWIN off-road cyclists took Sunday’s Clean Up Australia Day as a chance to revitalise one of their favourite cycling spots.
Darwin Off Road Cycling Club vice-president Jo Fox said the group scoured the off-road tracks at the Casuarina Coastal Reserve for four hours on Sunday, collecting about three tonnes of metal waste and 20 cubic metres of general waste to create a healthier and more attractive outdoor space.

“We use this area frequently … the place is a bit of a mess. The dumping here has been quite incredible” Ms Fox said.
“A lot of other community groups and people use these areas and being so close to the water, you want to keep stuff out of the ocean and make sure it’s safe for people to use this area.
“If nobody does it, it just builds up.”
While groups are often limited with what they can clean up, Ms Fox hopes bigger items such as tyres and the shell of an old car can be removed by the proper services at a later date.
