Shock comeback: Jeremy Cordeaux returns to radio

Jeremy Cordeaux left the world of radio in March 2021 after he was fired over a comment about Brittany Higgins. But he’s about to make a bold comeback.

Adelaide’s “shock jock in a cravat” Jeremy Cordeaux is making his official radio comeback two and half years after his sacking from FIVEaa.

Cordeaux was shown the door at the AM talkback station in March 2021, after referring to Brittany Higgins as a “silly little drunk girl” also adding “she deserves a smack on the bottom”, comments the veteran radio presenter stood by just days later.

The controversial comments sparked the end of Cordeaux’s near-six-decade career in radio across Sydney and Adelaide.

But now Cordeaux, who has previously owned radio stations, namely, 5AD FM, 5DN, 5SE, is making a return to the medium.

He is launching his own digital radio station, Jeremycordeaux.com, broadcasting from his dining room table.

“This is the future of radio,” Cordeaux told The Advertiser, adding the format was also like the “Wild West”.

“There are no rules … it’s hairy.”

The official start date – Cordeaux’s already done a soft launch to do some fine tuning – will be Friday, August 11.

In what Cordeaux, who was awarded an Order of Australia for services to charity, the community and broadcasting, is describing as “romantic”, that date also happens to be the 100th anniversary of the birth of commercial radio.

It came to be in the Parkside dining room of Stella and Jack Hume on August 11 in 2023.

“Its call sign was 5DON N, which became 5DN,” Cordeaux said.

Cordeaux, who at one time had the highest-rating radio show in Australia – The Court of Public Opinion on FIVEaa – says he hopes the new station will be a hit.

“The idea is that we start off lifestreaming one show a week on Friday morning for three hours,” he says, adding: “But eventually, of course, it could be every day of the week and indeed with other presenters filling the rest of the day”.

Listeners can tune in from 9am Adelaide time every Friday morning on Jeremycordeaux.com
