Tim Hewitt was first across the finish line covering the 12km race from the Esplanade to the Nightcliff pool in a time of 42:05.

Runner up John Howorth finished just behind with a time of 43:08 and in third place Mick Fallon clocked a time of 46:36.

Mr Fallon said despite it being “hot as hell” racing out in the Build Up instead of the usual time in June, it was still a great day.

He said his wife also took part in the 12km run and his three kids did the 1.195km Marathon4Kids event.

“It was five times harder (than usual),” Mr Fallon said.

“It was pretty slow and pretty hard, and it was for everybody.

“But it was a sensational day, it’s a really good day and how lucky are we – no one else is able to do this.”

Pippa Featherstone took out first place in the female division with a time of 51:42, taking back the crown after winning in 2015 and 2016.

Cathy Clarke was runner up followed by Hayley Schoenmaker in third place.

The winner of the under 21 male division was Connor Hawes with a time of 59:46 and the winner of the female under 21 was Jessica Knight with a time of 1:00:09.

Emerson Pomfret was the winner of the under 21 male division for the ‘Donate Life 4km Minisurfer’ run followed by Gilbert Cox and Matthew Rawsthorne.

Elisha Pettit was the winner in the female division of the race followed by Patricia Garraway and Rhiannon Keith.
