Ulric is off duty when at home but always sticks close to Matt and loves to play.Matt was an investigator with the ADF. He was deployed to the Middle East on a couple of occasions and investigated the deaths of soldiers. He developed severe PTSD through what he investigated and saw. The PTSD only manifested itself after he injured his back and was no longer able to work - when there was nothing keeping him busy his trauma floated to the surface. His service dog Ulric has saved his life - literally. He says the dog stopped him from killing himself on two occasions. On an everyday level, the dog is there to sense his anxiety and get him out of situations that could be bad for him. He wants to get the message across the service these dogs perform, and how they should be treated in public (ie, if you see a dog with a "Service Dog" jacket, you pretend it's not there, don't go patting it). Designed to clear the area of Taliban influence, the campaign featured the cooperation of nations. Afghan, Dutch, US, Canadian, British and Australian forces worked together to eject the Taliban and provide for ongoing security.The major role for the Reconstruction Task Force (RTF) role in the operation was the creation of a series of security check points across the contested Chora Valley to allow the Afghan Police and Army to stabilise the area. Australia has deployed an ADF Reconstruction Task Force (RTF), consisting of a combined arms team, to the Oruzgan Province in southern Afghanistan as part of Operation Slipper. The RTF is in partnership with the Netherlands Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) and forms part of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force. The RTF has a clearly defined role to work on reconstruction, improvement of provincial infrastructure and community based projects.
