A popular Top End swimming hole has been closed after swimmers spotted a predator lurking in its depths the night before World Croc Day.
An NT Parks and Wildlife spokesperson said the 2m freshie was filmed swimming in Florence Falls in Litchfield National Park on Sunday and its presence was confirmed with a spotlight overnight.
The spokesman said visitors would not be able to dip their toes into the iconic landscape’s waters until the freshie was removed.
“Parks and Wildlife have placed warning signs in the immediate area,” they said in an online statement.
“We thank you for your patience while the no swimming prohibition remains in place for your safety.
“The pools will be reopened as soon as practical remember to always #BeCrocwise.”
The closure – announced on a global day of appreciation for the unique reptiles – comes during the Territory’s peak tourism season.
