A TERRITORY dietitian has slammed the lack of effort in the hospitality industry to accommodate people with gluten free and other dietary needs.
HEALTHY alternative being run out of town
Darwin Dietitians founder Dr Richard Sager said getting educated on gluten intolerance was a small price to pay for long term benefits.
“People who are gluten free are prepared to pay for food they know is going to be safe,” he said.
“Gluten free people often eat at home and then go out and socialise afterwards. Rarely can they go eat anywhere with a sense of reassurance or safety. If they have the capacity to store and sell seafood, which is a sensitive food as well, why can’t they store something similar with gluten?”

One in 70 Australians have coeliac disease and with a growing population, Dr Sager said gluten free options in the hospitality industry was necessary.
