People are confused about the real flavour of Coles' famous yellow iced donuts

Is it pineapple? Banana? Lemon? Or maybe just pure icing sugar with colouring? We have the official answer to the question that is dividing shoppers. 

Remember back when the internet almost broke over the 'real' flavour of Streets' Rainbox Paddle Pop? (spoiler: It's caramel) Well, it's now time to bring in a new flavour guessing game. 

And this time it involves Coles' famous  $3.80 iced donuts.

While most of us have been sitting back and minding our own business these holidays, a Reddit post has been pinging non-stop after someone posted a question asking what the flavour of the delicious yellow iced donuts was. 

"I love to buy the Coles 6-pack donuts that include the strawberry, chocolate and 'yellow' donut. Does anyone know what flavour the yellow donut actually is?" user @geecee98 asked.

"I think it’s pineapple but some people think it’s banana. Is it even supposed to be a specific flavour like chocolate and strawberry? Someone settle this debate please!"

Is it pineapple or banana or just plain icing sugar?

Over 200 comments spilt into the chat like a jar of dropped sprinkles. And no one could really agree on the exact flavour of the sugary treat. 

First came the pineapple theorists. 

"Tastes like pineapple to me, and I love them. I'd buy a whole pack of yellow ones if I could," one person wrote. 

"I don’t know but it’s the best one, I think it’s like pineapple," another added. 

And another agreed: "I always thought they were pineapple."

"Pineapple right?" another fan added, also a little unsure.

Then the banana theorists entered the chat. 

"BANANA!! 🤣 honestly they all taste the same lol," one person shared. 

"Banana cause everything yellow is banana flavoured. Duh," another insisted. 

And another echoed: "Banana the artificial flavour kind."

There were a few rogue votes for lemon and others who insisted it had no flavour at all and the glaze was simply icing sugar with yellow colouring. 

And then came some of the more promising guesses covering all fruits -give it up for tropical!

"Can confirm, worked at Coles and when I saw the label as 'tropical donut topping' my whole life felt like a lie," one person settled the debate. 

And others agreed.

"Tropical. As someone who has made thousands of these bastards, the fondant flavour is tropical," another said, while also dropping another bombshell about the other flavours found in the six-pack. 

"The chocolate is chocolate and the pink is... pink. That's it. Pink Super Soft Fondant. Doesn't actually have a flavour," they added.

Let's not get distracted by a fun fact we didn't come here for. This story is about the yellow icing and we're happy to report we got you the official answer. 

Kidspot contacted Coles for clarification and according to the supermarket, the real flavour is....

TROPICAL!

"I can certainly help you settle the debate; the mystery yellow donut is tropical," Coles' Communications Manager Keith Brown confirmed, adding: "It's cool to see so much love for these donuts."

It's also good to see that the former workers in the original thread were paying attention during their shifts. Now we can go back to the couch.
