‘Why would you do that?’: Groom slammed for ‘shameful’ act on wedding day

“She took it like a champ, respect to her … but that guy is something else!”

Wedding guest throws cake at bride

A groom has copped a spray online after he showered his new wife with champagne after saying “I do.”

Last week, newlywed couple Cole and Kristal made a lifelong commitment to each other on the cliff face of Relais Villa Regina Teodolinda in Lalglio, Italy.

The rain didn’t stop the celebrations in Lake Como; the bride walked down the aisle in a figure-hugging strapless white gown, gripping her father’s arm and holding an umbrella.

However, even after the skies cleared up, perhaps she should have held tight onto that umbrella because she was certainly going to need it.

Internet divided after groom sprays bride with bottle of champagne

Groom cops a spray for his “disrespectful behaviour

In a now-deleted clip, the bride and groom were standing in front of an eye-wateringly beautiful backdrop on Lake Como, celebrating their recent nuptials.

In Cole’s hands was a large bottle of champagne, which he’d opened and began spraying into the air.

A voice in the background could be heard instructing Cole to “spray” the champagne; without hesitation, he turned around and started spraying his new bride.

Kristal lifted her arms in front of her face to shield herself from the impact of the champagne, which was being splashed directly into her face.

She tried to turn around, but Cole shook the bottle and aimed in her direction once more.

In the background, you could hear the sound of cheers and gasps echoing. “Woah, no!” shouted a voice.

“No, not her!” another bellowed, which was drowned out by the sounds of laughter and cheers from the other attendees.

All the while, Kristal’s dress, arms and hair were soaked in alcohol. But despite it all, she remained calm and composed, laughing and shaking it off (literally and figuratively).

After covering his wife in champagne, Cole took a swig from the bottle and made his way over to Kristal, pouring some into her mouth as they continued to celebrate.

Probably a little irritated about the state of her dress, Kristal took everything on the chin (and arms, and dress) and shrugged with a smile.

Now it was time for revenge. (Or perhaps a peace offering on Cole’s part?)

“Spray Cole!” a voice suggested from behind the camera; Kristal instantly grabbed the champagne from her husband’s hands and placed her thumb over the lip of the bottle.

As she started shaking the bottle, Cole stood backwards and held his arms out; Kristal doused him in champagne and covered his suit just as he did to her.

“She took it like a champ … respect to her!”

Online, people were divided with the groom’s behaviour with some arguing it was “grounds for divorce.”

“She took it like a champ,” read a comment. “Respect to her, but that guy is something else. Why would you do that?”

“So disrespectful,” said another.

But others saw things differently, arguing Cole was just “overexcited” and acted over-the-top before realising the error of his ways.

“It looks like he was just too excited,” someone remarked. “I’d be a little upset, but at least he gave her a chance to get him back lol.”

“The worst you can say is he plays too much but this isn’t a bad guy,” another agreed. “Just a man super happy to be married.”

Some pointed out how he was quick to accept his penalty, suggesting his actions weren’t done “out of malice.”

“At least he listened when he heard the no, and seemed to do his best to self-correct,” read a comment.

“Listening and learning, and doing better is a green flag.”
