"I won't have him at the next birth"
The devastated mum shared:
"[My husband Shawn and] I recently had our first child; the pregnancy went smoothly, and Shawn was amazing thoughout.
"The issues started when I went into labour, l was full term, 40 weeks 5 days with a big baby. The labour was AWFUL, it started at around 2 in the morning.
"Shawn refused to get out of bed to support me, thinking we had time, but things quickly progressed.
"I was in active labour for 10 hours. Shawn was in and out of the room, going to get himself coffee or food, or going to make a phone call, he left the room probably 10 times.
"The worst part comes next…. I delivered my beautiful baby boy, luckily Shawn was in the room. I tore pretty badly and needed stitches.
"Shawn said to the doctor who was stitching me up, 'Do you think you could add a couple more stitches for me mate?', clearly expecting a laugh but the room fell silent.
"The doctor said, 'That could cause lots of issues for the patient so no, absolutely not'."
"I was mortified, embarrassed, angry and so upset. I’ve told him that in future if we have more children, I don’t want him present and I want my mum instead. Now he is upset and has apologised saying it was nerves making him act that way, but I can’t get over how let down I feel."

"It's called the husband stitch"
Immediately, commenters called out the comment for what it is:
"What Shawn was suggesting has a name. It's called the husband stitch, and it's considered medical malpractice."
She added, "When Shawn says, 'How was I supposed to know it's that bad?' tell him that being an adult means trying to assess for himself whether things are unethical or illegal, and not waiting till someone else wanders along and tells him."
Then this person continued the point: "And if he can't figure out WHY modifying someone's privates without their consent for YOUR pleasure is bad..."
Others in the group called him "an absolute asshole" and "a trash partner."
Everyone agreed that the man shouldn't be allowed in the delivery room every again, but this one took it further, writing, "Never be allowed in the delivery room again?
"Ma'am, he should never be allowed near your vagina again."
But it was this anecdote that nailed the vibe: "My aunt is a labor and delivery nurse. She has an amazing female doctor who she works with.
"A new dad asked that stupid question. Without missing a beat, the doctor looked at his crotch and said that she didn't have enough sutures to make it that small."
