Kids are nothing if not creative.
Any ordinary household item can be a toy if you just flex your imagination. For example, my nine-year-old does Greek soldier spear manoeuvres in the driveway with a PVC pipe.
But Carla Freeman’s daughter Etta takes the cake for hilarious repurposing of things she finds kicking around the house.
“I just came in to tidy Etta’s bedroom and I’ve got to show you what I’ve just found in her doll’s house,” she said on TikTok.
The camera panned round to a scene of little mouse characters sitting on the floor of their lounge room.
One was sitting next to a tiny cat coming out of a box marked “rabbit”, another mouse was in the corner wearing an ermine robe and a crown.
But then she got to the best mouse of all: a naked mouse wearing an oblong plastic cap on its head.

Little girl uses mum’s Mooncup for hat
“That is my Mooncup!” Carla said, showing how the silicone menstrual cup fit perfectly on the mouse’s head and actually made quite a jaunty piece of millinery.
“I honestly don’t know how she got it,” the shocked mum added in the comments.
“It’s right at the back of our bathroom cupboard.”
The comments were hilarious.
“What?! I have been wearing mine wrong!” one person said.
“WAS a Mooncup. It’s not a Gucci hat for her mouse,” said another.
“My son who was about 12 at the time had found mine and was sticking it to his chin!!!” a mum said. “He then googled Mooncup and was scarred for life.”
“My son found a box of tampons and drew happy faces on all of them… he was so happy with his mouse family,” said another.
“Before having a toddler: I don’t understand how these things happen,” a third mum joked.

Some recalled their own childhoods where they repurposed menstrual products.
“When my little sister was two she found a package of pads and stuck them all to my grandpa while he slept,” one person said.
“When I was a kid I made an Easter bonnet which had tampons hanging off like an Australian cork hat,” said another.
