'Our shooting star': Dad of Jack Davey, killed in crash at school, posts tribute

"My mate, my champ, my Jackie-boi. Godspeed, until we meet again ... I love you."   

The father of a young boy who lost his life when a car ploughed through the fence of his Melbourne primary school, has shared a beautiful tribute for his son.

Jack Davey, 11, was sitting with friends when a car crashed through a fence and into a group of Year 5 students at Auburn South Primary School on Tuesday afternoon.

The scene has been overwhelmed with flowers and gifts for the beloved boy, and now, his father Mike Davey, has made the family's first public statement online - a tribute with a happy photo of his "champ".

“Our beautiful son. A shooting star who blessed us for 11 years with love, friendship and kindness,” he in an Instagram post.

“You were my inspiration and motivation. I cannot comprehend the life ahead without you.

“My mate, my champ, my Jackie-boi.

“Godspeed, until we meet again ... I love you.”

Jack's mother, dad and siblings visited the moving memorial for him outside the school on Wednesday afternoon to read all the messages left in his honour.

His father wore his son’s backpack, and his two sisters left teddy bears.

An online fundraiser set up to support his family has raise almost than $158,000.

Jack has also been remembered as a talented and valued member of multiple local sports clubs including the Titans Junior Basketball Club and the Glen Iris Gladiators Football Club.

"Every parent's worst nightmare"

Jack, a year 5 student, died after a Toyota SUV performing a U-turn veered off Burgess Street in Hawthorn East and crashed through a school fence into a table of children on Tuesday afternoon. Three girls and a boy were also taken to hospital with serious injuries.

One child has been discharged, but three others remain in hospital in stable conditions.

Premier Jacinta Allan and Education Minister Ben Carroll laid flowers at Auburn South Primary School on Thursday morning. They spoke to principal Marcus Wicher and other school leaders.

“We are all continuing to grieve with the Auburn South Primary School,” Allan said.

“We need to also continue to hold that school community in our hearts and thoughts, because this is going to be a long journey ahead.”

Victorian Education Minister Ben Carroll has called the tragedy “every parent’s worst nightmare”, adding the family of the young boy who died are “incredibly strong”.

“What I have been informed is that the family are incredibly strong that are going through this and quite remarkable given what they’re going through,” Mr Carroll said.
