My friend uninvited my 8mo from her wedding - it’s unfair so I took him anyway

“If I’d known he wasn’t invited from the start, I could have made other arrangements, but I have no options now,” the shocked mum explains.

Why kids SHOULD be included at your wedding

Fiona* was pregnant when she found out her friend, Amy*, was getting married

Excited by the news, the invitation stipulated that kids weren’t invited. However, babies were welcome.

The wedding was a year away, and Fiona would have to travel more than eight hours to attend. “I immediately booked the travel, car hire and hotels to make sure we could afford to go,” she told Reddit

Bride-to-be backtracks on wedding and turns it into a christening

Fiona gave birth to her son a few months after receiving the invite, but since it said babies were permitted at the wedding, she had no reason to believe she couldn’t bring him.

Two weeks before the wedding, she planned a coffee catch-up with the bride-to-be, Amy. It had been a few months since their last catch-up, and Amy had some news to share - she had a baby of her own.

“My son was an early walker, walking at eight months,” Fiona wrote. “He’s almost a year old when we meet, and  [Amy] comments on how ‘advanced’ he is for his age.”

After their catch-up, Fiona received a text message from Amy saying “she didn’t realise [Fiona’s] son would be walking already” and "could [she] not bring him to the wedding.”

Safe to say, Fiona was “shocked.”

“If I’d known he wasn’t invited from the start, I could have made other arrangements, but I have no options now.” She explained that the accommodation has since been fully booked, and it’s “all non-refundable.”

Fiona told Amy she had no other option but to bring her baby to the wedding.

“She suggests we get a babysitter, but it’s super expensive and I’ve never left him with anyone before,” she wrote.

It gets worse.

"When we got there, the “wedding” … wasn’t a wedding anymore, but was now a christening,” Fiona said.

Turns out, Amy and her husband secretly got "married officially a few weeks before in a small church wedding” and wanted to do their vows again in front of everyone, but they “changed their mind and made it a christening for their baby instead.”

Carrying on, Fiona then noticed four other babies at the reception, though “none are walking”. Also in attendance were “three young children” aged between four and seven.

Fiona said her son was “good as gold” and didn’t “make a peep” during the event.

But after dinner, the mother-of-the-bride approached Fiona and “strongly suggested” they “leave now.” She immediately felt “upset” and “unwelcome”, so she and the family left.

“It’s kind of ruined our friendship as I feel that she behaved badly,” she confessed, explaining that the two-day notice was “unfair” considering the planning and money she spent the year prior.

“Intimated by a walking baby, how pathetic of her”

Online, people were gobsmacked by the entire situation.

“That's BS from your (possibly former) friend,” a shocked person wrote. “Changing the event at the last minute is disrespectful.”

“So basically, your friend tricked y’all to come to a not wedding,” another commented. “Then she was having these thoughts about her own fruit of the loom competing with your bub.”

Others agreed. “These people are freaking weird,” someone gawked. “I think she did you you a favour, she took her trashy manipulative self out,” said another.

But some had other theories.

“Maybe the real reason she’s mad is because your kid is more advanced than hers, and when she saw that, she didn’t want him there,” someone suggested.

“Intimated by a walking baby,” read an unimpressed person. “How pathetic of her.”

“She was totally jealous your baby was an early walker.,” another said. “Competitive. She should watch Bluey's baby race!”
