Mum's genius hack to a stress-free Christmas morning shared on Tiktok

Not all heroes wear capes, and this mum is proof.

How to make sure your gifts are ready to be played with on Christmas day

Christmas morning can be quite chaotic.

The kids are running into your room at 6 am to tell you Santa has arrived, you’re trying to stop the cat from climbing up the tree again, and all you can think about is a cup of coffee.

Well, one mum has taken to TikTok to share a genius tip for making Christmas morning run a little smoother.

It’s all about the prep

“Here's a tip to meet your Christmas morning with little ones so much easier. It's really simple, but you wouldn't believe how often this gets overlooked,” said the mum.

“So many of my presents need batteries, or actually, a lot of them now have USB ports and they need charging up.

This means the kids will “open them and not be able to play with anything straight away.”

That’s when this mum’s bright idea comes into play.

The Mumma, who has over 400k Tiktok followers, recommended opening your kids’ gifts before wrapping them and adding in batteries or charging them.

“I'll get it completely ready…and stick it back in the box to be wrapped…so it's ready to be played straight away.”

The comments section of the clip is littered with praise for the mum’s clever hack with many sharing their thanks.

“Genius!!! 3 daughters means lots of dolls & millions of little things to clip off!! Going to do this now!!!” said one parent.

Another added, “Why didn't I think of that before I wrapped everything haha…next year!!!”

Parents feeling the pinch

Among the festive preparations, recent research highlights the financial challenges Australians face this Christmas.

Compare the Market's 2022 study reveals that 40% of Aussies anticipate scaling back on holiday spending, reflecting the economic strains on families.

Additionally, Advanis’ 'Festive Season Expectations Survey Research' also conducted last year, found that 8% of respondents dread the season due to financial constraints.

83% of households with children worry about affording presents, while 61% express concern about providing a special Christmas meal.

These statistics highlight the economic strain on a significant portion of the population during what is meant to be a joyous time.

It’s not ALL about the gifts

Even on a budget, parents can make Christmas truly special for their kids.

Personalised gestures, like crafting heartfelt cards or creating a holiday movie night, can help create lasting memories.

You can also plan a day of festive activities, like baking cookies or exploring holiday lights. Create traditions that emphasise togetherness, rather than overindulging in gifts.
