The internet is filled with life hacks and 'mum hacks' - but some (or most) really don't make life easier at all. And then there are others that are outright dangerous.

The worst part about those is that they're often seen by millions who might adopt the idea.

One mum who posted a highchair mess 'hack' this week discovered this the hard way.

"Things I wish I knew as a first time mum"

First time mum Monique loves to share tips from her parenting journey. But she recently posted the clip about how to make clean up after a meal in a highchair easier, but the reaction was not what she was expecting.

Monique shows that instead of manually wiping the tray down after every meal, she stretches cling film across it, and tapes down the edges underneath to ensure it stays in place.

When her baby's done eating, she rolls up the cling film - with the food and waste inside - to throw directly in the bin.

"Mum hack that I also learned from tiktok," she captions the video.

"Find a different way to be lazy"

Hundreds of viewers were concerned about Monique's 'hack' for several reasons, one of which was the environment.

"Please try to find a different way to be lazy. Preferably one that does not waste so much plastic," one advised.

Another questioned: "Cost? And environment? Or nah?"

A third urged, "Please try not to use plastic unnecessarily and fill up our landfills."

Many were concerned about mixing babies with cling film.

"Suffocation hazard," a viewer wrote.

"That's dangerous - choking for the kids," another added.

"Choke risk - clean the mess, most trays detach," a third commented.

Some viewers were outright scathing, like this one who wrote: "No because my kids are small enough and dumb enough to eat the plastic. Didn’t think this through did you?"

This viewer agreed: "Baby only needs to put their thumb or finger to pierce the cling film and lift it up and you got a choking hazard."

Another warned, "Tried this I do not recommend, it is very dangerous due to small kids like to pick and eat everything plastic is easy to break."

Lastly, Monique was slammed for needing a hack in the first place.

"'Cause to clean the tray would take two working days," read a sarcastic comment.

"Or you just take three minutes to wash the tray after use," suggested another.
