Mum makes inappropriate discovery on her daughter's dress

“I just assumed it said some happy Easter s**t."

Accidental purchase: When your child's dress isn't what you expected

How carefully do you look at what your kids are wearing

One mum has realised perhaps she hadn’t been looking closely enough. Then again, who would ever expect sexually explicit phrases to be printed on a little girl’s Easter dress?

Can you blame her?

"I was looking for answers"

Heather Brown thought the dress gifted by her daughter’s grandparents was just a cute Easter gift. On closer inspection, she found that it couldn’t have been further from the truth.

“I just assumed it said some happy Easter s**t,” Heather told Kidspot.

“There was no brand on the tag, just a size, hence why I was looking for answers".

Her daughter had worn the dress a few times, but during a nap, she decided to take a closer look at what exactly was written in the pattern.

Amongst the pastel pictures of jellybeans and bunnies, the creepy inscriptions included: ‘want to have an easter egg hunt under the covers?’ ‘This coupon entitles you to 1 free peep show!’ ‘let’s pretend we’re rabbits and do whatever comes naturally. ’

The weirdest one by far reads ‘you’ve been the best husband and friend a girl could have ever asked for.’

Heather shared her discovery to TikTok and quickly went viral,  racking up hundreds of comments and demanding answers alongside her.

Some criticised her for not being more vigilant, but she disagrees.

“People were saying ‘why didn’t you read what was on it before putting it on your daughter’ and my answer, along with many others sticking up for me, was why should I have to?” she explained.

“If I’m gifted or buy a dress for my baby, I shouldn’t HAVE to make sure it doesn’t say sexual quotes on it.”

Her comment section didn’t hold back.

“It looks like a woman made cutesy cut-out coupons for her husband, and some company stole them from her Pinterest or something to use as a fabric pattern,” one person pointed out.

Another suggested: “I think it was made in another country and a translation disconnect put these inappropriate sayings on a child’s garment. That’s my theory.”

It didn’t take internet sleuths very long to find stores stocking the dress.

In a follow-up video, Heather explains, “one of them was Lele & Co, and the other one was Toodles Treasures.”

She also located the artist, who sells PDF prints online, and was unaware of what was occurring.

“I told her that her print was being made to make baby girl dresses, and even on her website, it clearly states for husband, partner, fabric designs.”

The artist was just as “flabbergasted” as Heather.

"Does not align with the values I uphold"

Lele & Co has removed the item from its website and responded to the incident with a statement on its social media sites.

They wrote: “I would like to express my deepest apologies for the inappropriate text found on one of the clothing items sold in my store. This particular piece was a resale from a vendor, and regrettably, I did not catch the offensive wording before it was listed. Please rest assured that this does not align with the values I uphold or support.”

“For the record, the item in question has been promptly removed from my website and all social media accounts. All remaining stock will be destroyed immediately. The one customer who has purchased this outfit is currently being contacted.

I am dedicated to meticulously reviewing all my products to uphold the standards I promise to my customers. Despite the negative and hateful messaged, they will not diminish the passion that founded this company. Lele & Co is facing slander based on unfounded claims.

“I appreciate everyone’s concerns that brought this matter to my attention and allowing me the opportunity to address it.”

It’s understood Toodles and Treasures has also removed the item from its site. Kidspot has contacted them for comment.
