Adelaide family left homeless after devastating fire

An Adelaide family is devastated after a horrific house fire engulfed their Aberfoyle Park home on Tuesday night.

At 8:30pm, a couple and their three-year-old daughter escaped the burning rental property which firefighters believe was set ablaze by a mobile phone charger connected to an extension cord sitting on a bed.

It’s understood there was a fault in the cord, which sparked the house fire.

“You can’t even f**king make this s**t up,” the mum is heard saying on mobile phone footage of the blaze.

According to 7News, she called her mum, Shelly Hudson, as she took footage of her home burning to the ground.

It’s understood that just before the fire broke out, electricity went out, and one of the adults went to investigate at the fuse box.

When they returned inside, they found the bed on fire.

“Oh this takes your breath away,” family of the victims can be heard saying in a separate video showing the aftermath of the fire.

“Oh the whole thing [is ruined].”

“They tried everything they could to put it out, they thought they put it out but then it just went ‘whoosh’ and they had to get out,” Shelly told 9News.

“There was so much fire and smoke,” neighbour Georgia Wishart said. “The gas bottles exploding was so loud, so it spooked everyone.”

It took 20 minutes for firefighters to put out the blaze, and they were also able to save the family’s cat.

The family was renting the Maple Street house and didn’t have renter’s insurance.

It’s estimated the damage will cost $600,000 to repair.
