I took revenge on the annoying kid in the plane seat behind me

"If you won't do something about his behaviour, I will."

12 new rules of travel etiquette

We all know that kids can't keep still on plane journeys, but you'd expect their parents to make an effort to keep them somewhat under control, right?

Well, that certainly didn't happen during one recent flight, which a woman hilariously recounted on the social media platform Threads.

"One time on a plane, a kid [aged six] was being absolutely awful, kicking the seat in front of him," the woman, Kitty Colvin, began.

She explained that the boy was banging the seat so hard that a flight attendant had to come over and approach the mum to tell her to get the boy under control.

"Her response was to give him an iPad at full volume," Kitty recounted.

The entitled plane act

The kicking continued, but now it was accompanied by loud games and screaming.

"He was kicking and throwing himself around, having a little tantrum, and the whole time all of this was happening, both parents were kissing him all over his head and face to soothe him, to absolutely no avail," she said.

This prompted yet another intervention from Kitty, who informed the flight attendant about the ongoing problem.

But again, there was no improvement, so she decided to take matters into her own hands.

"I, sitting in the window seat, lean over, pull my mask down, narrow my eyes into evil lil slits, and hear my mum's voice come out through my gritted teeth: 'You better knock. it. off. RIGHT. now'. I literally snarled," she recalled.

"When I tell you that child looked as if he had never been spoken to like that in his whole life. His eyes got huge, he shrank into a little ball on his dad's lap and stared at me all terrified for a minute then passed out completely."

Finally, she and the other passengers could enjoy an hour of peace while the primary schooler slept.

However, the kicking and screaming continued as soon as he woke up...

She said: "I peeked out from my seat once more, threw him a malevolent glare, pulled down my mask, narrowed my eyes and just shook my head at him slowly, all but doing the finger/knife/throat gesture, and he snapped back into his seat and peeked around his mother's arm at me every so often and I would meet his gaze without moving my head."

"This is iconic"

People in the comments loved Kitty's approach, praising her for her direct strategy and no b**lshit attitude.

"Gosh, I really wish I was there to witness this hilarity. I would have done the exact same thing, but I would have also been WAY aggressive in confronting the parents. I love a good fight. I’ll bet my life this kid is a freaking spoiled brat and has never heard the word 'NO'," said one.

"The parents are at fault for allowing this behaviour to continue, especially in a confined space where you can’t get away from it. No excuse," wrote another.

"This is so iconic, good on you for doing something," said a third.

"I wouldn't have done that, but bravo to you for that," concluded a fourth.
