‘I inspected a rental property in Sydney and was disgusted by what I saw’

“The sad thing is someone who is desperate and in need will pay that ridiculous amount just to have a roof over their head.”

Finding a decent place to live in the current rental crisis is challenging.

With the cost of living skyrocketing and people queueing up for hours to see a house, it’s lucky if you get to inspect a place at all.

And then, when you finally do see a property, it can be beyond disappointing. Especially for the cost you’ll be charged to live there

For one Sydney resident, the rental crisis has reached a new low.

Taking to TikTok, the Sydneysider was inspecting a property in Ingleburn, NSW, and was clearly unimpressed by what she saw.

“WTF is this,” she captioned the video.

The first room she entered didn’t look so bad, but the property started to get visibly worse as she continued walking the halls.

While the rooms were spacious enough, the property desperately needed cosmetic work.

The bathroom had missing tiles in the shower and had no working showerhead.

As she walked into the second bedroom, there was chipped paint on every surface and a smashed wardrobe mirror.

“$550 a week for this,” she wrote.

“Bro, this is disgusting”

Next was the kitchen, whose cupboards and drawers were falling off their hinges and smashed into pieces. Mould covered parts of the wood and the countertop appeared to have a large hole chipped into the side.

“It stinks!” the woman exclaimed. “What the f**k?”

The rest of the house was a shambles, with filthy walls and floors, holes smashed into walls, and grunge touching every surface.

Traipsing through the backyard, which was unkept and muddy, the woman could barely hold back her disappointment.

In a follow-up clip, she inspected the granny flat. “Oh my,” is all she could say as she made her way into the back property.

Pieces of carpet were scattered over the linoleum floor, and as she looked up, noticed a large hole in the ceiling.

“Bro, this is disgusting,” she said.

“It looks like a crack den!”

People on TikTok were just as revolted by the sight.

“It looks like a movie set for a horror film,” someone noticed. “Looks like a halfway house,” said another.

“Sad thing is someone who is desperate and in need will pay that ridiculous amount just to have a roof over their head,” a woman wrote.

Others labelled the house “disgusting” and “hideous”, pointing out the failure to clean up the property before inspections began.

“I can't believe an agent showed this place like this,” wrote a shocked person. “At least get it cleaned before showing people through.”

“This is just getting out of hand!” read a flabbergasted comment. “It would be beautiful if it was fixed up, but right now, it looks like a crack den, especially the kitchen OMG,” said another.

“They need to redo the kitchen, bathroom and all the electrical before they should even rent it out,” a person agreed.
