‘I called off our gender reveal party once I found out we were having a girl’

“I'd be fine with a reveal where the guests are the ones being surprised, but not my husband.”

And while she and Lawrence are excited to welcome their new family member, Sophie is growing increasingly worried her husband will be disappointed when the baby arrives.

Mum cancels gender reveal party in case her husband is disappointed

The couple planned to throw a gender reveal party and invite everyone in their family to share the big announcement.

Everything is ready to go: They’ve got a cake, a photographer has been booked, the venue is perfect, and their invitations have been sent out.

But here’s the issue: Sophie’s afraid Lawrence won’t react well if their baby isn’t the gender he is desperate to hear.

“I can tell that despite us already having a boy who he absolutely adores, he desperately wants our second child to be a boy,” Sophie candidly confessed to Reddit

The couple didn’t have a gender reveal party for their first child, and it wasn’t for a lack of trying.

“My husband kept putting off whether or not he wanted to hear it from the doctor and when,” she said.

“We ended up learning (with him ecstatic) about having a son less than a month before giving birth.”

To give a better understanding of her relationship with Lawrence, Sophie explained why her husband acted in such a way.

See, Lawrence grew up in a household that most would describe as toxic.

“He grew up with an older dad who was always controlling towards his mother,” she explained., describing how Lawrence’s father pursued his mother and passed the same tactics down to his own children.

For example, Sophie complained that Lawrence was trying to pressure her into sleeping with him only one day after giving birth to their first child.

One. Day.

“He would counter by saying I turned down sex the day after giving birth but that was him showing he was attracted to me post-baby,” she said.

Now, things have gotten worse. Lawrence’s desire to have a boy was exceedingly obvious, and things were starting to get tense, bickering back and forth about finding out the baby’s sex.

“His demons are back,” she confessed.

“We got to a point where he said fine to me going alone to hear the baby's gender ( without telling him), and I found out we're having a girl.”

“I went into planning this reveal rationalising that gender disappointment is okay, but I've come to realise that there is wishing you're having a son and then there's fixating on NOT having a daughter even more than wanting another son, and my husband falls into the second category.”

When she returned home after finding out she was having a girl, Lawrence could instantly read her expression and had a “negative reaction.”

“He is arguing he doesn't know the baby's gender because I did not explicitly tell him but 100 per cent he does know,”  she said.

As such, she has decided there would be no point in hosting a gender reveal party, especially if he were going to show his disappointment this way.

“I'd be fine with a reveal where the guests are the ones being surprised,” she added.

“But it's in a week, and with each day, my husband grows more withdrawn.

“He's not the type who can fake happiness and often tries to leave and pull me away with him when he's really upset,” she said.

“Your husband sounds f**king awful”

It would be an understatement to say the Reddit community were disgusted by Lawrence’s attitude.

“Your husband sounds f**king awful,” someone bluntly said.

“He IS the demon,” read a comment. ‘There's no ‘real him’ that exists separate from the person who's done these things. The real him did those things. Sometimes he just acts like less of a dick.”

“He makes me throw up in my mouth a little bit,” a third wrote.

“And she wants to protect him by cancelling the party,” said another.

“Keep the party, film his reaction and post it all over the internet to show what a pathetic excuse of a man he is.”
