‘I asked my seven-year-old to label her school uniform - I learned my lesson’

“I mean credit where credit is due … at least it won’t get lost at school!”

Mum’s miracle hack for removing grease stains from school uniforms

Hearing that your child has lost their uniform at school fills every parent with dread.

Most will work tirelessly to put every possible identifier on it - name tags stitched into the fabric, printed labels and easy-to-spot colours - to stop it from happening again.

While these are great in theory, sometimes things don’t go to plan - as one mum discovered.

Mum horrified after 7yo labels her uniform incorrectly

“Lesson learned”

Sallay, a mum from the UK, recently bought her seven-year-old daughter a new school uniform and instructed her to write her name on it so it wouldn’t get lost.

It turns out the instructions weren’t clear enough.

“See what my daughter did to her new school uniform,” the British mum captioned the TikTok

In the footage, there isn't a label maker in sight, nor a needle and thread.

Instead, lying on the bed were five crisp white shirts, each with a large black marker printed all over the collars.

That’s right, her 7yo decided to write her name on the outside of her uniform, all the way across both sides of the collar. She really went to town on the fabric, even adding stars to some parts and switching between cursive and block letters on every shirt.

While it’s probably not going to pass the school’s uniform requirements, it’s certainly a unique take on the task.

Perhaps she has a future career in fashion design?

Unfortunately, her creativity didn’t win her any brownie points with Sallay; “I cried,” she said.

The mum admitted that she’d have to experiment with different stain removal methods to get the marker out. If that doesn’t work, she’ll likely have to purchase a bunch of new shirts to replace the ones her daughter customised.

“Lesson learned,” she laughed.

“Hope she loves her custom uniform”

Sallay’s daughter and her creative design left people in stitches online, with some admiring the 7yo's handiwork.

“A fashion designer will see this and make a new ready-to-wear line with their brand,” read a comment.

“In her defence, you told her to put her name on the uniform, never specified where!” another wrote. “I can’t stop laughing,” a third added. “But I guess you want to cry?”

Another said: “Hope she loves her custom uniform.”

Others recommended that Sallay look on the bright side. At least it won’t get lost or stolen any time soon, right?

“I mean credit where credit is due,” a person wrote. “At least it won’t get lost at school!”

“At least the school can see her clothing is labelled,” said another.
