“I didn’t even think it through. I was just like, ‘grab the snake, grab the snake,’” said the Sunshine Coast tween.

12-Year-Old Queensland girl battles 2-metre python to save guinea pig

A 12-year-old has bravely helped save her precious guinea pig’s life after she caught a snake trying to take it as a snack

Rosie hadn’t seen her guinea pig, MaxiBon, for some time and was started to get worried about its whereabouts.

At nearly 6pm, she stepped outside into the backyard of her Sunshine Coast home and started searching high and low for her pet, searching high and low and pulling through the bushes.

Then she found a two-metre snake with its jaws clenched on MaxiBon’s body.

“I saw the snake had wrapped around MaxiBon’s neck”

Security footage in the family background captured the heart-stopping moment Rosie realised what had snatched away her precious pet.

Without a second thought, she grabbed the snake by its tail and began spinning, hoping the reptile would unlatch its fierce grip.

“I saw this snake, and it was wrapped around [MaxiBon’s] neck,” she told 7News.

“Didn’t even think it through. I was just like, ‘Grab the snake, grab the snake.’”

She was spinning around several times, but the snake wouldn’t let up; it found a snack and wasn’t going to give up easily.

But soon the ruckus was loud enough for the adults to run outside. Her dad, Luke, ran towards Rosie and grabbed the snake out of her hands.

As soon as he grabbed the reptile, it dropped the guinea pig onto the grass.

“I’m proud that my 12yo had the guts to pick up a snake and save her pet’s life”

Thankfully, MaxiBon was unharmed and in good spirits despite his near-death experience.

While there’s no confirmation available, it’s believed Rosie reduced her beloved pet from either a deadly eastern brown snake or a python, which is typically harmless to people.

Rosie’s dad was impressed with his daughter’s quick-thinking and brave move against the predator.

“I’m proud that my Rosie, at 12 years old, had the guts to pick up a snake and save her pet’s life,” he said.

As for Rosie, she’s ecstatic she was able to rescue her precious MaxiBon.

“I’m very happy it survived,” she said.
