FOR the beloved readers of this humble daily newspaper, the NT government’s new tourism campaign will look incredibly familiar.

The campaign, which hits the newsstands down south today, includes a 16-page liftout on everything to see and do in the Territory – and is specially branded with the NT News masthead.

Tourism NT executive general manager of marketing Tony Quarmby said the campaign aimed to put the Territory on the radar of southerners who were unable to travel overseas this year.

“The Territory is the Answer campaign launched in late June prior to the NT border restrictions easing, and encourages Australians who are not from hot spots to stop dreaming and start booking their dream holiday to the NT,” he said.

“We are in an extremely competitive market and if we are to make an impact for our tourism industry, getting top of mind through initiatives such as the NT News newspaper liftout will be vital to attract holiday visitors here to the Territory.”

Mr Quarmby said Tourism NT hoped to get people’s attention by releasing the ad as a “mock” edition of the NT News.

“Territorians all know the Northern Territory is an iconic destination with amazing attractions, experiences and people,” he said.

“The challenge is how to continually reinforce this messaging to interstate audiences during a time when they are focused on other things. So Tourism NT thought it was fitting to partner with one of Australia’s most recognisable communication channels, the NT News, to help.”

“We know the NT News is renowned around the world for its quirky front-page headlines and the classic masthead instinctively draws people’s attention – what better way to get our message out there.”

NT News editor Matt Williams supported the move, and said it was the perfect time for those who could to check out the NT.

“It’s a place you have to tick off your bucket list,” he said.

“If it’s special you’re looking for, the Territory delivers it in spades.”

More than 50,000 people have arrived in the NT since the borders were opened on July 17, including more than 22,000 by air and more than 30,000 by road.
