Mum slams 'low-class bogan' parents for entitled act at Aussie cafe

"Why do parents think it's okay to do this? It blows my mind."

"If you don't discipline your kids, don't bring them to a cafe"

A fed-up Aussie mum has taken to TikTok to call out parents who let their kids "run wild and trash" venues, labelling it "low-class bogan behaviour" after witnessing a local cafe's play area be destroyed by unsupervised children.

Millie, from Townsville, said a mum let their children wreak havoc on the playground at Sirens Bayside Café on May 31.

The mother-of-two didn't hold back in the clip, slamming any adults who let their kids act so recklessly in a public place.

The "low-class bogan" act

In her video, Millie spoke frankly, saying: "Just quietly, if you take your kids to a café that has a playground and then you think that's automatic permission to let your kids run feral and trash the place, you should not be taking your kids there.

"We have this local cafe in our area and they put a lot of effort into making the really beautiful kids area for small children, toddlers and babies to play in."

She then explains how another mum let her kids "completely destroy the play area", and the damage was so bad that the owners had to remove the entire thing in order to repair it.

Millie did some digging to try and figure out which mum was responsible for this, searching through a local Facebook group for answers.

She eventually found a post from the parent in question - a mum of two boys - who admitted she wasn't remorseful at all.

"She was of the opinion that if a cafe had a play area, then it was for her kids to play in, and she didn't want to be disrupted by her children while she was trying to drink her coffee," Millie explained with noticeable frustration in her voice.

"Everybody complains that Townsville has no nice cafes, no nice facilities, like Melbourne and Sydney. But then when a cafe owner goes out of their way to make their space nice to make it inviting to mums and bubs, this is what happens, and it is absolutely heartbreaking," she continues.

"Quite frankly, it doesn't matter how expensive your activewear is if you're not going to parent your children and if you're going to let them trash public facilities so that none of us can use them, then that's just low-class bogan behaviour."

She captioned the post: "Wanting to enjoy a hot coffee is a universal parenting struggle - but it’s not an excuse to ignore your children."

"Blows my mind"

In the comments, hundreds of parents agreed with Millie, saying the behaviour was unacceptable.

"Honestly, the worst thing about parenting is other parents," said one.

A second added: "Agree 100 per cent. I’m in Townsville too and so many times I have seen parents just let their kids destroy property and have no remorse. Also letting kids harass staff carrying hot food! It’s not safe."

"Why do parents think it's okay to not actively supervise their children in a play area? Blows my mind," another asked.

"We're not running a daycare centre"

In an interview with Yahoo News, the owner of the cafe, Natalie Giofre, said she was forced to remove the play area she and her partner had built by hand after it had been trashed.

It was a busy Friday morning when she walked outside to the courtyard and saw the damage that had been done to the kid's corner.

She said that while "98 per cent of customers are beautiful and do the right thing" this particular incident left her "extremely upset."

"The door had been ripped off the cubby house, it was all jagged and nails were hanging out," she explained to Yahoo. "It was left in a dangerous state."

Natalie emphasised that while she wants mums to be able to enjoy themselves and relax at her cafe, she does expect parents to supervise their kids.

"For me, it's the parents' responsibility to supervise their kids and also to inform us when something does happen so we can come out and fix it. At the moment, my staff are having to supervise other people's children," she said.

"We're here to provide coffee and food and great service, we're not running a daycare centre. We're not here to make sure your kids are not trashing the yard or breaking things or misbehaving."
