ALMOST one-third of Jetstar flights are departing late from Darwin, new figures show.

The Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics domestic airline on-time performance report showed only 68.1 per cent of Jetstar flights departed Darwin on schedule last month.

Of 47 sectors flown, 15 departed late.

Jetstar’s Darwin-Melbourne route left on schedule just 64.3 per cent of the time.

The budget airline fared better on arrivals into Darwin with 93.6 per cent of flights arriving on-time.

A Jetstar spokesman said: “Sometimes a late arriving can impact our other Darwin services as it creates a knock on effect.”

“While we’re disappointed with the number of late departures, our arrival results are sky high,” he said.

“... for the month of February, Jetstar out performed our competitor on all measures nationwide.”

Qantas had the best on-time performance with 93.9 per cent of flights departing as scheduled from Darwin while Virgin Australia had 92.6 per cent of on-time departures.

Of the 64 routes nationwide which met the criteria for on-time performance reporting, the Darwin-Perth route had the highest percentage of on time departures, achieving a 100 per cent rating.

Qantas Domestics CEO Lyell Strambi said Darwin was an incredibly important part of the airline’s network.

“Providing a reliable and punctual service to our Darwin customers is why we continue to be the best for business and premium travel,” he said.
