Massive brand name you have been saying wrong

A popular online retailer has cleared up a misconception about how to pronounce its name, after many have been stumped on how to say it.

Temu, Nearly Unheard of a Year Ago, Is Redefining E-Commerce in the U.S.

A popular online retailer has cleared up a misconception about how to pronounce its name, after many have been stumped on how to say it.

Temu launched in Australia in 2023, and it quickly became the fifth most popular online retailer in the country. However, the brand has stepped in to clear up a very important point; how the name is pronounced.

“Temu is pronounced as Teh-moo, as opposed to Tee-moo, as many Australians would say,” material from the brand reads.

And, it turns out Australians aren’t the only ones who were a little confused.

Brittany, an American content creator, shared an add she discovered where the brand’s name was said.

“Like, please tell me I’m not the only one who thought it was Tee-moo,” she said.

“And, I’m still calling it Tee-moo. I’m not calling it Teh-moo.”

Other social media users were equally perplexed by the revelation.

“My sister‘s been saying that the right way for the longest time, and I used to laugh at her,” one social media user added.

One said: “They had an ad a couple years ago where they pronounced it TEA MOO! So they’re just gaslighting us now.”

“I was shocked when I listened to that ad,” one commented.

Another social media user added: “I call it Temoo and I get corrected by everyone saying it’s teamoo.”

“It’s more of a TEH MOO and less of a TEHMU,” one said.

It’s not the first time Australians have been stumped over the best way to pronounce a brand name.

Adam, who is from the United States but lives in Australia, said he was laying in his apartment when he realised he doesn’t know how to pronounce the name of women’s store Decjuba.

“Is it Deckjuba, is it Decja-uba, is it Deekjuba,” he asked his following.

“I just don’t know how to pronounce it.”

Social media users agreed.

One said: “Don’t worry, you’re not the only one. I don’t know how to pronounce it either.”

“For you, it’s 100 per cent Deck-Juba. Keep it up,” one social media user joked.

Many other Aussies took to the comment section of Adam’s video to reveal they weren’t entirely sure how to pronounce the name of the women’s clothing store either.

But, it seems like it’s something that staff at the store get a lot because the social media team were quick to sweep in with an answer for everyone.

“The j is silent. It’s De-Cuba,” the Decjuba page responded.

Last month, Temu revealed that Australian businesses can now sell directly to millions of consumers who use the platform famous for its cheap and affordable products.

Shoppers are also set to benefit from quicker deliveries rather than the 20-day turnaround it can take when items are purchased from China.

“For consumers, the addition of local sellers means they’ll be able to enjoy a broader selection from Australia-based sellers on Temu,” a spokesman said.

“Local businesses can now tap on Temu as a low-cost channel to connect with millions of shoppers, creating new opportunities to expand and reach new customers.”
