DARWIN’S own Malak Marketplace will reopen for another dry season on May 4.
The organic market has been running for several years and this season organisers plan to change things up and include other food experiences.
Co-founder and chair Lina Paselli-Kruse said they were including yoga, fitness seminars and more pre-book dinners to the suite of events and products already on offer.
“The lantern light dinner series will be back this year so every food stall will be able to organise a menu for their pop up restaurant area,” she said.
The high tea option will also return after proving popular last year.
For the first time, this year they will also have a coffee and cheese platter for two as a light evening meal.
Chris’s Coffee, who has a stall at the markets, will be supplying the espresso for the coffee and cheese plate.
All food stalls will also provide either vegan or vegetarian options such as vegan laksa, veggie chips, gluten free rice pasta and vegan dumplings.
Stalls will also as much as possible use local produce from suppliers who have stalls at the markets.
“It’s about really showcasing what we have in the Territory in our dishes not just through the produce you can purchase,” she said.
Yoga will be held from 4-5pm weekly in the theatre with a fitness seminar to be held fortnightly after yoga.
Two produce stores will also join the ranks.
Microgreens NT will rejoin the markets while Pacific Sunrise Fishing Darwin will supply fresh fish for people to buy and take home.
It’s the first time a fish retailer has set up a stall at the markets.
Ms Paselli-Kruse said the Mexican Standoff food stall would be using the fish stall and whipping up fish tacos.
Malak Marketplace is held each Saturday from 4pm to 9pm, starting on May 4 and running for 26 weeks.
The marketplace is held at the car park at the Malak Shops on Chambers Cres, Malak.
