Little-known Bluey influence parents aren't so happy about

An Aussie man was stunned to hear that this was the first thing mentioned when talking about 'medicine' with his niece.

The real-life places that brig Bluey to life

Kids can learn a lot from watching Bluey - it’s long been considered a go-to for parents in need of some help explaining complicated topics to their little ones.

But, it seems not everything they pick up is so positive.

An Aussie content creator has taken to social media to share his story, and apparently this influence is more common than you might think.

“Why was that your first question?”

Aussie TikTok creator Anthony Voulgaris, on the app as @undiagnosedanthony, has shared a video following an odd interaction with his three-year-old niece.

“My niece just ran into my room and grabbed my vitamin gummies, and she goes, ‘What are these for?’,” he says.

“I go, ‘It’s my medicine’, and she goes, ‘Oh, do you have bum worms?’.”

Whilst bum worms - more frequently referred to as threadworms or pinworms - are common in children, Anthony took to the internet asking why on earth this would be her first thought.

“Firslty, for anyone else asking, no, I do not have bum worms. Secondly, why was that your first question? It could have been anything else, why did she go for bum worms?” he asked the internet.

“She’s speaking from lived experience!”

Some people said the reference was simply due to her own experiences with medication.

“I think she’s speaking from lived experience HAHAHAHA” one person said.

“Finding out about worms is a canon event as a kid,” another agreed.

“Because kids worming tablets are now gummies in Australia dude lol. She's probably had worming gummies before. You're meant to give them to kids a few times a year,” said a third.

“It's really common for little kids to get pinworms, maybe she has only ever had to take medication for that,” another person suggested.

Thanks, Bluey!

But, others said there’s one more specific reason - and it relates to every Aussie kid’s favourite show.

“Every mum knows it’s the Bluey episode,” one mum said.

“Blame Bluey. I work in childcare and they are all obsessed with bum worms now,” said another.

Bluey babe. She watches Bluey,” another person agreed.

“I think you can thank Bluey for that hahahah my daughter asked me the same thing,” another mum shared.

If you’re not familiar, bum worms are a pretty frequently discussed illness in the world of Bluey.

It’s first brought up in the season one episode, ‘Bumpy and the Wise Old Wolfhound’, but is also referenced in ‘TV Shop’ and a number of other episodes.

Even though it plays on the fact that dogs can get worms, kids sure do get them too - and I think everyone knows someone who secretly enjoyed ‘bum worm chocolate’.

So, next time you hear someone say bum worms - blame Bluey.
